My Netbook Reflection

Hi, My name is Fineasi and I am a year 5 student at Glenbrae School and I am in Room 9. My teacher is Mr. D. Nath.

This year was an exciting year for me because I started using a chromebook as a tool in the classroom.  I was fascinated by the thought of doing so many cool things on my chromebook but it took me some time to really start using it effectively. There were so many things to learn and tried my best to learn as much as I could from my teacher, whanau and friends.

These are my reflections on what I did on my chromebook.

I have learnt about Cyber safety, Accessing the class site, Blogging, keyboard shortcuts,  using google applications like google presentations, creating new folders and documents, using tools, taking screenshots, using Sumo paint

I have learnt how to go and find messages on Email. How to use my chromebook well and responsibly. I have learnt how to access different sites on the internet and I have helped my friends in class by showing them how to get on different sites and how to put links into my google doc.

This year I am able to think about the topics I am going to research on and write questions about it, using gmail and sharing my work on the blog, read more online books, stories and articles while looking for information , deciding which sites are safe for me to access and use information from, sharing my learning on my blog and on the class blog.

Popcorn

The article is about a class who planed some corn and they make them into some popcorn and then after that they eat it with the class. She peered at the large packet of popping corn that our class was about to use for Healthy Snacks Day.

This story takes place at the school garden.

I like this story because the corn looks yum and I want to eat some popcorn.

Story Review

Docking Day by Amanda Jackson

The story is about a family going to their farm to dock the sheep. The dogs had already begun working. In the distance, the sheep surged over the crests of hills like a tide of white maggots.

The characters in this story are Mollie, Mikey, Tama and the chocolate truck driver.

This story takes place at Uncle Tama’s farm.

I like this story because it was funny. The chocolate truck rolls down the hill and the children helped the truck drive collect all the boxes that fell out of the truck.

This article is about Ashley and Shiree and they are racing car drivers. The cars driven weigh less than 150 grams each. A race lasts less than one second! Ashley and Shiree are the only children competing in the annual Slot Car Drag Racing Nationals in Nelson. They are competing in races against each other as well as against adults racers.

All the races are run as a best of three”. You have three chances to get the fastest time. At the start of a race, the racers line up in twos beside the drag strip. About them is a TV screen. The racers have to watch the screen for a green light. As soon as the green light flashes on, each racer presses down on their handheld control button to start the car.

They need to have very fast reaction times. If they start their car before the green light comes on, a red light flashes. This means that they are disqualified for that race.

The characters in this story are Ashley, Shiree and the Adults.

I like this story because the cars are cool and the flames are cool too.

My Holidays At Home With My Family

In the weekends, I stayed home with my family.All I did was go to my games on Saturdays.

I went to my little cousin’s first birthday on the first Sunday of the holiday.While I was at my cousin’s 1st birthday, I played with my older cousins outside.

My cousin tackled me down and he laughed at me because I fell down. I had fun at my Aunty's house because there was cake and food. That's all what I did in the holidays. I’m glad to be back at school because school is cool.

Soccer With Ben

During the past six weeks, room 9 has been getting lessons on soccer every Tuesday from Ben. He also taught us about teamwork and also working with people we didn't like because they were part of the team and soccer is a team sport.Soccer is fun to play with your friends at school and when Ben is here, I learn more and more from Ben about soccer and how to be a team player. Everyone in room 9 thinks that soccer is good for exercise.  

The thing I learnt from soccer, is how to pass the ball to each other, dribble, kick the ball straight and he showed as a couple of games like flag tag, octopus and truck and trailer. Thanks for the skills Ben

In winter I had a pig for dinner

My dad wanted chicken but I was the winner.

The winter clouds are in the sky,

Where there was a bun

And a fat man having fun.

In winter I went to a game

No one could take the blame
